Breast reconstruction

Plastic surgery
Breast reconstruction surgery is used to create a new breast after having lost one or part of it, usually due to breast cancer. The aim is for the woman to feel comfortable again with her body and recover an appearance that is the closest possible to the one she had before surgery.
Reconstruction surgery can be performed at the time of mastectomy (what is called immediate reconstruction) or it can be done after the incisions of mastectomy have healed and cancer therapy has been completed (what is called delayed reconstruction).
There are different ways to do this reconstruction. In some cases, a prosthesis or implant is used, similar to those used to increase the chest. In others, tissue from different parts of the body can be used.
Our team is an expert in DIEP technique, which consists of reconstructing the breast from skin and fat from the abdominal area of the patient’s own body, thus becoming a more natural aspect of the breast.
In a final stage of breast reconstruction, a nipple and an isola can be re-created if they were not preserved during mastectomy.
Sometimes sine reconstruction surgery includes surgery on the other sine, or if contralateral, so that the two breasts are similar in size and shape.
