We include under skin coverage any skin defect that cannot be closed directly and requires specific techniques for its solution. These may be due to pathological causes (removal of tumors, radiotherapy, etc.) or accidental.
The complexity of the technique will depend on whether or not noble tissues are exposed (cartilage, bone, tendon, nerves and/or blood vessels). Thus, the complexity of the surgery will range from skin grafting in cases without exposure of noble structures, to the mobilization of pedicled or microsurgical pendants in which there is exposure of these structures and higher quality tissues are required for their coverage.
